This introductory episode will provide some background context into the the podcast it is my opportunity to let everyone know what the podcast is all about and where I envision the podcast going. I will introduce you to the Hero Journey by Joseph Campbell & the Creative Heart Process, a map I created to navigate your Heroes Journey.  The Creative Heart Process is based on my transition to a creative life, I will share my background and tell a story that illustrates what I encounter as the main factor holding people back from their unique talents and gifts and what this podcast will do to address it so you can get on your own hero journey to leave your legacy. What would your life be like if you did not settle for anything less than the life of your dreams?

Feeling blocked and wonder why?

“What you seek is seeking you” ~RUMI

Think of an issue that is blocking you that you would like a creative solution for. Right before you go to bed ask the question silently to your self. – “How can I……?”

I hate my job: How can I find a job I love?
I feel blocked, bored, restless: How can I reawaken my dreams?
Unfulfilling relationships: How much love is in the Universe?
I want to write a book but I can’t find the time: How can I live my life purpose?
My life is overwhelming: How good can I stand it?
Sometimes it is an issue we are not conscious of, are resisting or are in denial about: What is ready to wake up at this time?
How can I evolve?

See all the creative ways that the answer comes to you.

a. Have no expectation on how the answer will arrive:

a few possibilities:
-a knowing first thing in the morning upon waking
-symbolically in the form of a dream
-numbers – repetition of certain numbers and geo metric shapes over and over
-through nature or an animal
-the next day
-the next week

The list above is by no means comprehensive. Here is an example of a unique message I received at a gas station while I was paying.

b. Be open to possibilities and willing to see what comes next.

Your body is a messenger.

  • Pain or a sensation in your body is a clue as to what may be blocking you.
  • When you ask the question to your self, or think of the issue, where do you feel it in your body? Note any pain or sensation in your body.

Keep a detailed record and track all that you observe.

Getting into the habit of going internally for guidance is the cornerstone of the Creative Heart™ process – and key to creating the life of your dreams. It was this habit that led to the outline for my Creative Heart™ book and business. One morning I woke up and the ideas started pouring out of me, luckily I had a piece of paper to quickly record one of my biggest creative downloads.

How a hummingbird helped me create my Art Show

I always have a few personal creative projects on the go – creative endeavors that I just do for no reason other than it is fun and I enjoy it.  I had assigned myself a creative project to take images of the colour blue.  I created an assignment:  spend 30 days taking pictures of blue, and turning it into a photo book.  Why? I simply love the colour blue, and I love to take pictures.

During my creative assignment, I set up an old fish tank outside one summer day, filled it with water and my daughter (my skilled assistant) dropped blue food colour into the fish tank.  As we were doing this, a humming bird stopped in front of what we were doing as if watching us; the vibration of its wings made us look up.

A lot of my inspiration for my creative pursuits comes:

  1. When doing what I love
  2. When I am playing – just for the fun of it
  3. When I am in nature – animals have been a key source of creative sparks for me

BLUE:  The concept for the show was the healing properties of blue –  as blue represents the throat chakra, speaking our truth, and expressing who we really are and has a calming effect on our nervous system.  Combined with inspiration from nature, hummingbirds are messengers of joy with their ability to  accomplish that which seems impossible.

Know your Craft:

see this slide presentation for instructions on the process of combining encaustic and photography.

Watch this “How to” slide presentation.

KEY CONCEPTS – ingredients in the creative process:
  • Keep it simple
  • Do what you love
  • Play
  • Create space on your calendar for creativity & fun

The process of inspiration

Early this year I was accepted by a Jury to participate in the Art at the Manor 2013.  Art at the Manor is a yearly event at the Aurora Historical Societies’ Hillary  House.   The assignment for the 3 artists was to portray the Hillary House, its’ history, collections and grounds through the theme of medicine and health.

Hillary House, the Koffler Museum of Medicine  National Historic Site  was home to 4 doctors during the late nineteenth and early twentieth century.  The Hillary House is home to a nationally significant collection that represents the history of the practice of medicine in Ontario.  The collection includes medical records and accounts, textbooks and manuscripts, storage containers, fixtures and facilities for medications, used by the doctors who practiced from the house.

Step One:

Was to spend an afternoon in the house finding something that inspired me within the Medical theme of the show.

When I was in the library the first book that was pulled off the shelf captured my interest right away.  It was a medical book from the 1800’s on birth, the book Dr Robert William Hillary used in the 1800’s to deliver babies.  I had no idea at that point what I was going to do I just knew that was the topic.

Stay tuned for the results…

I will be at the Boyton  House , 1300 Elgin Mills Road East, 10-5pm

Saturday October 13 & Sunday October 14

Blue Morpho – create your own destiny

A  Blue Morpho

Lives in tropical rainforest.   One of the largest butterflies in the world.  They have a metallic iridescent surface that appears as bright blue on their  upper wings  and brown/gray with eyelike spots underneath.  I felt like I was in a fairy tale when they flew by me in the rainforest.

Morph – means to be transformed “to transform or be transformed completely in appearance or character” free online dictionary.  To morph is to manifest in form something new; creating your own destiny by your intentions and thoughts.

Butterflies symbolize a person’s essence, beauty, joy, hope, and rebirth,  to name a few.   A blue butterfly is thought of as a wish granter, indicating a change in luck.

Happy 2012

“Every new beginning comes from some other beginnings end.”  Closing time lyric Written by Dan Wilson

From a numerology persepctive 2012 (2+0+1+2)  is a 5 year which represents  change.   Dan Wilson wrote  the famous line – “in anticipation of fatherhood,”  the line is about “being sent forth from the womb as if by a bouncer clearing out a bar.”    Sometimes that is what facing change feels like, the stage right before birth can be quite a struggle – but well worth the effort.  I hope that any change you face this year comes with ease and grace.  Let the dolphins help you go with the flow and breathe.

As 2011 ends I am grateful for all the illumination, blessings,  people and experiences that shaped 2011.   Sending you many blessings for 2012, and a life filled with what you love.  It is going to be an amazing year!
